In <\/span>Eleftherias Square<\/b>, next to the lively <\/span>Ladadika <\/b>district, stands the <\/span>National Bank of Greece building<\/b>, one of\u00a0<\/span>\u0398\u03b5\u03c3\u03c3\u03b1\u03bb\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03ba\u03b7<\/a>\u2019s most distinctive architectural works. A New Beginning After the Great Fire<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Fire of 1917 <\/b>reshaped <\/span>\u0398\u03b5\u03c3\u03c3\u03b1\u03bb\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03ba\u03b7<\/b>, destroying much of the city, including the original bank building. With the growing need for modern infrastructure, the <\/span>National Bank of Greece<\/b> planned a new headquarters. After a lengthy approval process, architects <\/span>Aristomenes Valvis<\/b> and <\/span>Nikolaos Mitsakis<\/b> designed a new building, completed in <\/span>1933<\/b>. Originally intended for the <\/span>National Bank of Greece<\/b>, part of the space was soon allocated to the <\/span>Bank of Greece<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

\u0398\u03b5\u03c3\u03c3\u03b1\u03bb\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03ba\u03b7<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0architecture is a mix of\u00a0Byzantine<\/strong>,\u00a0Ottoman<\/strong>, and\u00a0Modern<\/strong>\u00a0influences, with\u00a0neoclassical\u00a0<\/strong>buildings being a rare sight. This one stands out with its reinforced concrete structure,\u00a0Corinthian\u00a0<\/strong>columns on most sides, and\u00a0Doric\u00a0<\/strong>columns framing the\u00a0Bank of Greece<\/strong>\u00a0entrance. A grand\u00a0pediment\u00a0<\/strong>and a\u00a0clock<\/strong>\u00a0add elegance to the\u00a0fa\u00e7ade<\/strong>. Built with innovative foundations for its time, the materials came from various sources, including marble from the island of\u00a0Tinos<\/strong>, giving the building its refined character.<\/div>

The building\u2019s <\/span>interior <\/b>moves beyond strict <\/span>neoclassicism<\/b>, incorporating elements of <\/span>Byzantine<\/b>, <\/span>Italian Renaissance<\/b>, and <\/span>Art Deco<\/b> influences. It consists of an underground level, ground floor, mezzanine, and three upper floors.
